Warsh Refuses to Guide the Market. That Makes the Fed Meeting More Dangerous, Not More Hawkish.

QQQ fell 2.50% Friday, while the S&P 500 lost 1.11%.

The obvious explanation is hotter inflation plus Fed uncertainty.

But I think the more useful interpretation is this:

The market is not pricing a guaranteed hike. It is repricing the probability that rates stay restrictive for longer.

That distinction matters enormously for what I would buy next.

🔵 WHY WARSH'S SILENCE MATTERS

Warsh declined to pre-commit ahead of the 27-28 October meeting.

That is not automatically hawkish.

But markets dislike uncertainty, particularly when valuations are elevated.

Hotter CPI and PPI have already weakened the case for easier policy. If bond markets begin pricing another hike, long-duration technology gets hit first because its valuation depends heavily on future earnings.

That explains why QQQ fell more than SPY.

The next move therefore depends less on what Warsh says today and more on:

Treasury yields + inflation expectations + the Fed's October language.

🚦 QQQ: I WOULD BUY THE CORRECTION, BUT IN LAYERS

QQQ is around $717.

I am not chasing Monday's rebound if it opens strongly.

🟡 $700-$715: FIRST PICK

Small accumulation.

🟢 $675-$695: PREFERRED PICK

This is where risk/reward becomes considerably better.

🟢 $640-$665: STRONG PICK

If earnings remain intact, I would become aggressive here.

🟡 $730-$740: FIRST RECOVERY

🟢 Above $750: BULLISH CONFIRMATION

Then $775-$800 comes back into play.

🔴 Below $640: THESIS CHECK

🟢 SPY NOW HAS ONE ADVANTAGE

If rates remain higher for longer, I expect the market to continue broadening away from the most expensive growth stocks.

That does not mean abandoning AI.

It means stop paying any price for duration.

SPY gives me more financials, industrials, healthcare and cash-generating businesses that can absorb higher rates better than speculative technology.

So my positioning into the Fed meeting would be:

SPY for core exposure. QQQ on meaningful weakness. Cash for optionality.

I would not rotate completely out of technology after a 2.5% down day.

That is usually when emotional decisions become expensive.

🔵 MY PREDICTION INTO 27-28 OCTOBER

🟡 50% BASE CASE: CHOPPY CONSOLIDATION

QQQ trades roughly $690-$740.

Investors reduce risk ahead of the Fed, but strong earnings prevent a deeper liquidation.

🟢 25% BULL CASE: $740-$770

Treasury yields stabilise, earnings impress and markets conclude the Fed is pausing rather than preparing another hike.

Above $750, momentum improves quickly.

🔴 25% BEAR CASE: $650-$690

Bond yields push higher and markets begin seriously pricing another hike.

This is the scenario where expensive AI names could experience another sharp valuation reset.

🚦 MY FED PLAYBOOK

🟢 Fed pause + softer language: Buy QQQ, favour profitable AI leaders.

🟡 Fed pause + hawkish language: SPY over QQQ, accumulate tech selectively.

🔴 Rate hike: Do not immediately catch the first QQQ drop. Let yields settle.

🟢 QQQ $675-$695 without earnings deterioration: My preferred opportunity.

MY CALL

I think the market is more likely to get a pause than another hike, but the bigger risk is that the Fed refuses to signal when easing can resume.

That can keep yields elevated even without another rate increase.

So I would not choose between QQQ or SPY.

I would use them differently.

SPY is my core holding into the meeting.

QQQ is what I want to buy if Fed anxiety pushes it toward $675-$695.

And if QQQ somehow reaches $640-$665 while AI earnings remain strong, I would view that as an opportunity rather than evidence that the AI thesis has suddenly disappeared.

The Fed does not need to hike to hurt technology.

But equally, Warsh refusing to promise a cut does not mean technology suddenly deserves to be sold at any price.

The opportunity is likely somewhere between those two extremes.

I am not a financial advisor. Trade wisely, Comrades!

My pre-Fed QQQ base range: $690-$740. Which comes first, $750 or $675?

Amazon Leads; Can QQQ's Rebound Survive Earnings?
QQQ gained 1.21% and SPY 0.42% as the AI selloff eased and Amazon’s 4.98% jump lifted tech and data-center stocks. Bulls note the rebound broadened into memory, semiconductors, and networking. Bears warn that upcoming SpaceX, Meta, and Tesla earnings, along with October rate-hike risk, could renew valuation pressure. Should investors hold QQQ, rotate into SPY for diversification, or wait for clearer earnings signals?

Long-end yields matter more here. If the 10Y keeps drifting up, QQQ can hit that lower range without any new hike at all
