$SpaceX(SPCX)$ SpaceX operates as a near-absolute natural monopoly in the U.S. defense space. The military depends on it heavily because there is no viable alternative. Starlink, along with its military counterpart Starshield, is the only low-Earth orbit satellite network capable of delivering high-bandwidth, low-latency, electronic-warfare-resistant internet across an entire continent. Traditional defense contractors have nothing close to that scale. The Pentagon also relies on SpaceX rockets to launch its most sensitive, classified national security satellites and spy payloads. Since the U.S. government depends entirely on SpaceX for core space and communications strategies, the company and Musk personally hold immense leverage.
