Tesla is increasingly valued as more than a carmaker, with AI, autonomy, robotaxis and Optimus carrying a large part of the long-term narrative. That creates enormous upside if execution matches the vision, but also leaves little room for disappointment.
For this earnings report, I care less about another ambitious timeline and more about automotive margins, free cash flow and evidence that AI spending is moving towards monetisation.
If I owned TSLA, I would hold rather than chase before earnings. Stronger margins plus tangible autonomy progress could justify adding later. Weak margins accompanied by more promises would make me cautious.
Tesla has plenty of optionality. The question is how much of tomorrow investors should pay for today.
