While Broadcom's ~143% AI chip revenue growth and $16 billion quarterly run-rate highlight its dominance alongside Google’s TPU ecosystem, entering ahead of earnings carries heightened short-term execution and expectation risk. Concerns surrounding customer concentration, Marvell’s peripheral design expansion, lower initial gross margins on custom ASICs, and multi-billion-dollar debt requirements for AI infrastructure make the near-term setup volatile. At ~18.9x forward earnings down 25% from highs, Broadcom's fundamental thesis remains rock-solid, but waiting for post-earnings clarity on margin conversion and Q4 guidance is the safer risk-adjusted strategy.

Broadcom Pitches a $230B 2028 Target — Why Is the Market Only Paying for Next Quarter?
Broadcom fell 2.74% on 2.35x volume, ~28% below its high, despite record revenue of $29.6bn, +86% YoY. Hock Tan set an FY2028 AI revenue target of $230bn, ~4x this year's — selling 2028 while the market pays for next quarter, which guided light. Macquarie upgraded at $490 on Anthropic's ramp; BofA cut its target while raising estimates — higher profits at a lower multiple. Peers held: Marvell +1.14%, Nvidia +1.80%. Bulls anchor on lock-in through 2028; bears on the discount rate: distant revenue is worth less until rates peak. Reprice on the $230bn roadmap, or wait for guidance to catch up?

Past the earnings noise, I care more about how much peripheral ASIC design share Marvell can actually take from Broadcom. That routing gap matters more than one quarter.

Top two customers above 35% of revenue is the part I can't hand-wave. AI demand helps, but that concentration cuts both ways into earnings.
