Imagine you have $1 million to invest today. You can choose from some of the market’s hottest stocks and assets — AI, semiconductors, Chinese tech, gold, Bitcoin, cash, options and more.
There’s no right answer. You just need to build the portfolio you’d actually want to hold.
The rules are simple:
-
Your total cannot exceed $1 million
-
You can choose up to 5 assets
-
At least 1 pick must be a non-stock asset
Would you go heavy on AI? Load up on memory stocks? Keep some cash for the next selloff? Or put part of the portfolio into gold or Bitcoin?

However sanity would prevail. Here is how I would invest:
1. $Vanguard Total World Stock ETF(VT)$ - USD 300,000. VT is the ultimate "buy the world" ETF, holding 9000 stocks across US, Europe, China, Japan, Australia & much more.
2. $SPDR Portfolio S&P 1500 Composite Stock Market ETF(SPTM)$ USD 200,000. SPTM tracks the large cap, mid cap & small cap US stocks in 1 powerful ETF.
3. $SS SPDR STI ETF(ES3.SI)$ SGD 200,000. STI ETF is my dividend anchor & includes the Big 3 Singapore banks.
4. Gold Bullion USD 100,000. Gold does not pay any dividends but it is my safe haven assets.
5. Balance: Cash & $iShares 0-3 Month Treasury Bond ETF(SGOV)$ . This represents my warchest & cash reserves for emergency funds.
This is my sleep well at night portfolio.

Alphabet - $100K
Microsoft -$100K
Palantir - $100K
Meta - $100K
Nvidia - $100K
Apple - $100K
Amazon - $100K
S&P 500 (CSPX) - $150K
VWRA - $150K
My biggest 2 assets will be in index fund (S&P 500) and VWRA (ETF).
I'll never buy Tesla, Micron, SanDisk,SK Hynix.CoreWeave, SpaceX and crypto (e.g Bitcoin).
Here is my allocation:
* NVIDIA — $300,000
* S&P 500 ETF — $300,000
* Gold — $150,000
* Bitcoin — $150,000
* Cash — $100,000
Total: $1,000,000
NVIDIA would be my largest growth position. It remains the leader in AI chips, data-center acceleration, and the broader AI ecosystem. Even though the valuation is rich, I believe AI spending will stay strong for years.
The S&P 500 ETF would be my core holding. Instead of trying to pick every winner, I would own the whole market. This gives me exposure to hundreds of profitable companies and reduces single-stock risk.
Gold is my required non-stock asset and my portfolio stabilizer. If inflation rises again, geopolitical tensions increase, or markets become volatile
$200,000 in RocketLab (space)
$100,000 in IONQ (quantum)
$100,000 in Gold ETF
$200,000 in Nvidia (chips)
$400,000 in NZ dairying
Tesla - $200K
Palantir - $200K
Bitcoin - $150K
Cash - $100K
Not buying SpaceX but using Tesla to gain exposure at lower risk levels.
CoreWeave is a no no for me.
