TSMC Hits Record Revenue: How Much Upside Is Left?

$Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing(TSM)$   saw two call trades worth more than $10 million each, with near-term positioning pointing to further upside while a longer-dated call sale puts a notable upside monetization level roughly 30% above the current share price. Record July revenue provides additional fundamental support.

What Do the Two Million-Dollar Call Trades Signal?

A large Sept. 4 $370 call sweep hit TSM, with 2,050 contracts traded for roughly $11.56 million in premium. The trade was executed near the ask with a delta of around 0.87, suggesting aggressive near-term bullish exposure through deep-ITM calls.

Another large trade involved the opening sale of 8,000 Jan. 2027 $550 calls, collecting approximately $12.25 million in premium. With TSM trading around $422, the $550 strike sits roughly 30% above the current share price, suggesting some traders are willing to monetize further upside around that level.

That makes $550 a notable upside monetization level. It is not necessarily a price target, but the trade offers a useful reference for how some large options traders are pricing TSM's upside over the coming months.

Record Revenue Supports the Bullish Case

TSMC reported July revenue of NT$467.58 billion, up 44.7% YoY and 5.6% MoM, setting a new monthly record.

While growth moderated from June's unusually strong pace of nearly 68%, July growth remained above Q2's overall rate of roughly 36%. The market's assessment remains broadly positive, with AI/HPC demand staying robust as advanced-node and CoWoS capacity expansion continues to translate into revenue. Some analysts also believe the current monthly sales trajectory raises the possibility of a Q3 beat.

As a key bellwether for the AI supply chain, TSMC's results also provide another demand signal for major customers including $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$, $Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.US)$, and $Broadcom (AVGO.US)$, while continued capacity expansion keeps semiconductor equipment names such as $Applied Materials (AMAT.US)$, $Lam Research (LRCX.US)$, and $KLA Corp (KLAC.US)$ in focus.

Still, strong revenue did not immediately lift the broader semiconductor sector on Monday, while TSM shares also saw a relatively muted reaction. That suggests elevated AI growth expectations are already partly priced in. August and September revenue, followed by Q3 results, will be key tests of whether TSMC can continue to outperform expectations.

What's Next for TSM?

Fundamentals and near-term options positioning remain constructive, but elevated expectations are raising the bar for further gains. Record revenue continues to validate AI demand, while the $11.56 million deep-ITM call trade points to continued bullish positioning. Meanwhile, the $550 call sale puts a notable upside monetization level roughly 30% above the current share price.

The key questions from here are: Can AI demand sustain its current strength, and how much further can TSMC outperform already-high expectations?

I just went back through those two block trades — that 0.87 delta Sept call buy is loud. I stay bullish, but does 550 now feel more like a ceiling than a magnet?
