On October 18, President Donald J. Trump said on X that he is negotiating peace between Russia and Ukraine and will not sign a document now, arguing that doing so could push Russia away from the bargaining table.
Trump said progress includes ongoing hostage talks and suggested he could sign the document later. He added that Russia is doing little to help the Islamic Republic of Iran and that he wants to keep it that way.
He criticized Volodymyr Zelenskyy for targeting Diesel Refineries in Russia, saying the attacks hurt world diesel markets, including in the United States, and that farmers, ranchers, and businesses are suffering. Trump asserted that Russia is nevertheless sending "millions of barrels" of diesel to the world at a low price, and claimed Zelenskyy does not want to end the war, citing money from Europe and what he called "Crooked Joe Biden."
