On October 15, President Donald Trump said on X that Nidal Malik Hasan will be executed by firing squad as scheduled and that the event will not be streamed.
In the post, Trump described Hasan as a former U.S. Army Major who killed 13 people, including a pregnant soldier and her unborn son, and seriously injured 32 others. Trump said Barack Hussein Obama’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) intercepted electronic communications between Hasan and the Yemeni-American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki. According to Trump, when reviewed by an FBI terrorism task force, investigators concluded the emails were not a threat—an assessment he said was later considered a key intelligence failure. He argued that streaming the execution “might have been a strong deterrent,” but said many “very good and well meaning people” would prefer not to watch.
Trump wrote, “He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed.” He added that the execution may be viewed in person by the immediate families of the victims, if they choose to attend.
