WeRide (WRD) is considering expanding into Australia, South Korea, Japan and Southeast Asia, Chief Executive Tony Han told Reuters Thursday.
Han said WeRide is already in talks with Australian regulators and is also evaluating markets across Southeast Asia, South Korea and Japan. The company is in discussions with additional European countries, while preparing commercial deployments of its right-hand-drive robotaxi service in Singapore and Hong Kong, Reuters reported.
WeRide expects to meet its target of deploying 5,000 Level 4 autonomous vehicles by year-end, including 2,600 robotaxis, Han said. The company is also seeing strong demand from Chinese and international automakers for its advanced driver-assistance systems.
Han said WeRide does not currently have an immediate need to raise capital but would keep the option open if favorable terms become available.
