The Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security is reviewing how Chinese AI firms acquire Nvidia (NVDA) chips by renting computing power located in other countries, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The agency effort involves the compilation of a list of countries with alleged black markets moving restricted Nvidia chips physically into China, the report said, citing the people. The division will also compile a list of countries where Chinese companies access the chips remotely, the people told Bloomberg.
The Commerce Department didn't immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
