Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized the United Kingdom leader in an X post Friday, saying that Keir Starmer was jeopardizing the lives of his own citizens, and threatened an Iranian response against the country.

"By ignoring his own People, Mr. Starmer is putting British lives in danger by allowing UK bases to be used for aggression against Iran," wrote Araghchi. He said, "Iran will exercise its right to self-defense."

Araghchi's comments follow Iran's strike on the joint U.S.-U.K. military base of Diego Garcia on Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported, which prompted the U.K. to announce that it was expanding U.S. access to its military bases from defensive operations to military operations related to the Strait of Hormuz.

Araghchi also said in his post that the majority of British people do not want to be involved in the war.
