President Trump made a reference to Pearl Harbor in front of the Japanese leader, when asked why he didn't notify allies about the U.S.'s plan to attack Iran.
"You don't want to signal too much. We went in very hard and we didn't tell anybody, because we wanted surprise," Trump said. "Who knows better about surprises than Japan? Hey, why didn't you tell me about Pearl Harbor?" he said, referring to Japan's surprise attack on the U.S. naval base in 1941 that thrust the U.S. into World War II. The two leaders are set to discuss Iran, trade and China in Thursday's meeting, Trump said.
