Traders are turning to the "recession trade" after Trump's tariff announcement.
They're dumping bank stocks and shares of small companies, which can be especially sensitive to an economic slowdown.
Futures tied to the Russell 2000 index of small companies, which has already been flirting with a bear market, were particularly hard hit in evening trading Wednesday. Russell 2000 futures tumbled around 4.6%.
Shares of JPMorgan slipped roughly 3%, while PNC Financial's stock lost around 4.5%.
Stock futures fell across the board, pointing to a potentially ugly open on Wall Street the next morning.
