Markets have turned higher ahead of President Trump's big tariff announcement.

The S&P 500 rose about 0.7% Wednesday. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note ticked up as well, on pace to snap a three-day streak of declines. Gold prices rallied, sending the precious metal toward another all-time high.

Trump has declared April 2 "Liberation Day" for U.S. trade policy. He is due to announce the contours of a sweeping tariff plan in a 4 p.m. ET Rose Garden address. The Wall Street Journal will stream the president's tariff comments live.

The tariff fight has ignited worries about a slowdown in economic growth, driving a steep selloff in shares of small companies. After weeks of unease about how Trump's tariff plan will shake out, and which industries they will reshape, investors and business leaders around the globe are hoping for more clarity.
