Trump's Tariffs Are Harsh Penalty on European Auto Manufacturers -- Market Talk
Dow Jones03-27
0621 GMT - President Trump's proposed 25% U.S. auto import tariffs from next week for all imports provide a final, and arguably harsh penalty on EU auto manufacturers, Citi analysts write. Whilst the stock reaction of autos will be negative today as hedge fund's grow their short positions, Citi believes that tariff pre-positioning is significant. It also believes tariffs have been a reason not to buy EU autos, and hence this "arrival" could provide a clearing event after the initial reaction. "We shall see." (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)
