The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an attempt by former President Donald Trump to dismiss Federal Reserve Board member Lisa Cook. This decision secures her position and is widely viewed as reinforcing the independence of the central bank. The Supreme Court, in a 5-4 vote, upheld a lower court's ruling that allows Cook to remain in her role at the Fed while her legal challenge against the dismissal proceeds.
The Supreme Court stated, "The government has not demonstrated a likelihood of success on the legal merits presented in its application for a stay."
Cook initiated the legal battle on August 28 of last year, following Trump's attempt to remove her from the Federal Reserve. The attempt was based on allegations that she made false statements on mortgage documents in 2021, which may have secured her more favorable loan terms.
