Market Analysis

On the geopolitical front, on September 28 local time, U.S. President Trump said that U.S. officials had spoken with mediators seeking to end the U.S.-Iran conflict. Earlier reports said the United States and Iran were expected to hold another round of talks through mediators on September 28 or 29. Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi and Qatari mediators are currently in the United States, and the talks are expected to focus on revising Iran's proposal, raised during the United Nations General Assembly, to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. U.S. officials disclosed that Trump is willing to offer Iran sanctions relief and release frozen Iranian funds in exchange for "concrete progress" on the nuclear agreement.

On the Federal Reserve side, Fed Governor Cook said that future productivity gains from artificial intelligence may not be enough to offset recent price pressures, warning that this trend could push up inflation across the economy. The Fed's rate hike this month was aimed at addressing persistently elevated inflation, and she stressed that future policy will depend on economic data.
