Salesforce has announced the acquisition of enterprise content management software provider Contentful, marking its latest move to enhance its artificial intelligence offerings.
This acquisition is part of a broader initiative to make it easier for AI agents to access customer data within its ecosystem.
Specific financial terms of the deal were not publicly disclosed. However, sources familiar with the matter indicate the purchase price is between $1 billion and $1.5 billion. Founded in 2013, Contentful was valued at $3 billion in its last funding round in 2021, making this a significant discount on its previous valuation. A Salesforce spokesperson declined to comment on the pricing details.
The acquisition aligns with Salesforce's recent launch of the Headless 360 project, which aims to simplify how third-party AI agents integrate with its applications and customer data. Contentful's product suite is seen as a natural fit for this strategy. From a marketing perspective, Contentful has long promoted its "headless architecture" as a core product feature, indicating strong business synergy with Salesforce's goals.

Salesforce stated that it plans to fully integrate Contentful's products into its own software ecosystem. This integration will allow AI agents built on the Salesforce platform to seamlessly access unified data from various channels, including websites and email marketing campaigns.
