Memory chip stocks rallied in overnight trading. Seagate Technology rose 8%; Western Digital, SK hynix, Roundhill Memory ETF, and SanDisk rose 5%; Micron Technology rose 4%.
Seagate Technology FQ4 beat and guidance were well ahead on AI cloud storage demand.
SK Hynix reported a more than sixfold increase in quarterly operating profit to a record high, driven by robust demand for advanced memory chips as big technology firms ramped up spending on AI data centres.
Other chip stocks also rose in overnight trading. Marvell Technology rose 4%; Intel, Arm, and AMD rose 3%; Qualcomm and TSMC rose 2%.
Bloom Energy Corp (BE) rose 16.4%. Q2 beat and full-year guidance increased on AI demand.
Teradyne rose 14.3%. Q2 beat and Q3 outlook topped consensus on stronger fab spending.
Ford Motor lifted its annual guidance for a second time this year, to $10 billion to $11 billion in earnings before interest and taxes, citing strong pricing and improvements in its core business. The shares rose 4.1% in overnight trading.
NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) fell 1.6%. Q2 and guidance beat, but shares eased after results.
KLA-Tencor fell 8%. Results topped forecasts, yet lofty expectations drove a post-report slide.
Skyworks Solutions shares tumbled 9.6% after the company issued fiscal fourth-quarter earnings guidance that fell short of Wall Street estimates and announced the suspension of its quarterly dividend.
Optical communication stocks rose, with Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (CRDO) rising 3.61%, Applied Optoelectronics (AAOI) rising 2.69%, Lumentum rising 2.54%, Corning rising 2.19%. Optical names remained sensitive to AI infrastructure capex.
Among other individual movers, ProShares Ultra Bloomberg Crude Oil (UCO) rising 4.96%, United States Oil Fund LP (USO) rising 3.83%, Dell Technologies Inc. (DELL) rising 2.3%, Broadcom rising 1%, ServiceNow falling 2%.
