Tesla has announced a recall of 173 Cybertruck vehicles due to a structural defect in the braking components that could pose a serious safety risk while driving.
According to a notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall covers 2024 to 2026 model year Cybertrucks equipped with 18-inch steel wheels. The defect involves the stud holes in the brake discs, which are susceptible to cracking under mechanical stress when the vehicle travels over rough roads or during steering maneuvers. As the vehicle continues in operation, this issue could lead to the eventual breakage or detachment of the wheel hub bolts, resulting in a loss of vehicle control and significantly increasing the risk of collisions and personal injury.
In response to this safety hazard, Tesla has stated that it will provide free inspection and repair services for the affected vehicles. The corrective measures include fully replacing the front and rear brake discs, wheel hubs, and associated nut components with higher-strength parts to completely eliminate the potential safety threat.
